The Best Places to Rent Commercial Property in London

London is a big place. From the most desirable postcodes to the cheaper properties on London's outskirts, there are few cities that feel as vast and expansive as London. This is partly down to its sheer variety - from borough to borough, from street to street, London can feel almost like many small cities cramped together into a metropolitan miscellany. This can make it confusing if you're looking to locate commercial property in London, especially if you've never been to the city before. In this writer's opinion, these are the some of the best places to rent or purchase commercial property in London.

What you'll get:London is all about fashionable postcodes, and if a desirable location is a prime concern for your business you can't get more desirable than Mayfair. It is already home to some of the most recognisable and prestigious examples of commercial property in London, so expect fine dining, wealthy customers and famous neighbours.

What you'll spend: As one of the most affluent areas in the capital, you will pay more for the privilege of a Mayfair address. However, the current economic climate has led to many businesses downsizing or moving out of the area, leaving plenty of vacant commercial properties available at surprisingly affordable prices.

Shoreditch

What you'll get: Shoreditch was once a vivacious hub of Victorian music halls. Recent years have seen it begin to reclaim this title, as creative industries have moved in, and brought with them pubs, clubs and art galleries. Previously run-down industrial buildings have been reclaimed en masse and converted into studios and offices. In short, Shoreditch is the place to rent or purchase commercial property in London if you want your business to stand out as a fashionable and creative enterprise.

What you'll spend: The ongoing gentrification of Shoreditch inevitably means that it can command higher prices than less fashionable areas. However, the diversity of different commercial spaces available means that prices in Shoreditch are quite variable, and there are bargains to be had if you are willing to consider unusual spaces!

Canary Wharf

What you'll get: Canary Wharf dominates the London skyline with its towering skyscrapers. The world-famous heart of the city's business district, it provides stunning views, a memorable location and some of the most sought-after commercial property in London.

What you'll spend: 'The Wharf', as it's known around town, has an impressive portfolio of some of the world's biggest businesses. If you want your business to be recognised as a world-player, commercial property in Canary Wharf could be the investment that pushes your brand to the next level.

Canary Wharf has a huge amount of office and retail space available, and this variety is reflected in the price. Economy commercial property is available for extremely reasonable prices, and even the luxury end of the market is within reach of many budgets.

Hammersmith

What you'll get: Slightly outside of London's centre, Hammersmith nonetheless boasts some of West London's best transport hubs. Its tube, bus and road network makes an inner-city commute a doddle. Originally an industrial area, the Hammersmith has been extensively redeveloped to focus on commerce.

The UK headquarters of many big brands can be found in the area, a testament to its value as a provider of excellent commercial property in London.

What you'll spend: Hammersmith possesses some of the cheapest commercial property in London. Even top-quality office space can be rented or purchased at prices that, in some more expensive areas of London, would get you only the most basic offices. Add to this the fact that Hammersmith is an exciting and vibrant area, and you end up with one of the best balances of affordability and atmosphere in the whole of London.
