The Nuances of Mobile Enterprise Application Platform (MEAP)

Though some of the mobility components can leverage specific features of already existing applications and infrastructure but it imposes new requirements on the organizations existing IT infrastructure. Specific solutions by vendors that have mobile enablement can also be retrofitted to support mobility. However, using multiple vendor products or specific solutions just to mobile enable individual applications or suites will give rise to silos which will not easily integrate, giving rise to maintenance problems and cost concerns.

enterprise integration patterns

Enabling mobility within an organization brings with it additional functionalities that must be supported by IT including device management and service/application provisioning. Interactions with specific mobility products like BES to manage/enable mobile devices would need to be supported. Mobile application lifecycle management, device life cycle management, and so on, fall within the category of specific mobility related needs.

ENTERPRISE

A dedicated MEAP to enable and support mobility takes into account all the requirements mentioned earlier. It will be able to interface with the existing middleware and backend systems to enable data and applications on mobile devices. The MEAP will also make available a set of common features and services that can be leveraged by multiple applications to perform common operations.

The best approach for any organization while implementing a given solution is to first identify its own needs without any specific market offering in mind. Having identified needs, it is much easier to then analyze the extent to which these needs are readily fulfilled by the major players in the market.

The Strategic Consulting Group at Endeavour uses a similar approach and identifies the prime needs of a MEAP without considering any specific MEAP offering. After having done that they help organisations benchmark their needs against specific MEAPs in the market.

Since the MEAP market is maturing it may make sense for organizations to allow the best practices to emerge while at the same time build what it needs. There is no single product that can fulfill all MEAP requirements of a large organization.

1. The platforms have limited capability to mobile enable existing applications:

a. SAP NetWeaver and Sybase Unwired platforms can mobile enable a limited set of SAP-based applications. However, they would be limited mostly to the workflows domain.
b. Antenna Dexterra platform can mobile enable existing applications if mobile clients are written for the AMP platform.
c. In each case, the offerings require a vendor runtime to reside and execute on the device, which severely limits the capabilities that applications can have. Primarily, the architecture is such that the development environment provided by these offerings, generates a pseudo-code and the runtime component is required to interpret the pseudo-code and help run the application. Therefore, application performance is not as good as compared to an application written in native code. Apart from the same, there is a limitation in such architectures where the device capabilities cannot be leveraged beyond an extent.

2. Selecting Sap NetWeaver, Sybase Unwired, or Antenna Dexterra would also constrain new applications development efforts at the organization to the platform imposed by the respective vendors. In addition, if a particular feature of an OS is not supported by a platform, an application cannot be developed even if a requirement arises:

3. On the device management front, MobileIron is more capable than the other offerings. However, it is focused on Device Management only. Other platforms have a more limited set of functionalities. However, MobileIron has no enterprise application integration or support capabilities.

When To Use Mobile Enterprise Application Platforms

With a number of emerging and competing standards for all the various mobile devices, it's tempting to look for a quick fix for your enterprise mobile needs. Mobile Enterprise Application Platforms (MEAPs) try to leverage established back-ends making them available to both iOS and Android (and theoretically, BlackBerry and WP7). This is a lofty goal and at some level MEAPs can be successful, but there are some important considerations while evaluating a MEAP-based solution.

enterprise rental car

Clearly define what you hope to accomplish with your mobile endeavor. If your goals require even a moderate amount of interaction between the device and the user, then a MEAP-based solution will probably fall short of user expectations. MEAPs have to function across multiple platforms with minor customization, and because of this "lowest common denominator" design requirement, the experience typically seems flat or cumbersome. A MEAP can't take advantage of architecture or conventions not common to all devices and it's those differences that attract people to iOS or Android or BlackBerry devices. Whether it's the full lexicon of gestures or some of the hardware advantages, none of these are available for a MEAP to use.

ENTERPRISE RENTAL

Be care when investing in specialized development. MEAPs are often proprietary, and customizing and maintaining them can be a specialized skill. Organizations will either have to rely on the vendor for help or invest in teaching these skills to personnel. Adding a new technology to your stack (even one that is supposed save you some work) comes with long-term ramifications. If what you're trying to accomplish is core to your business, a MEAP-based solution might be too much of a risk.

HTML 5 is coming. Because HTML5 is a standard that every mobile device will eventually have to support, it could be considered a MEAP. It's an evolving standard and doesn't take advantage of mobile device native features, but it's not proprietary and HTML5 skills will be easier to find in the future. The question with HTML5 is "when?" When will the standard solidify enough for the open source community to build the tools and features to make HTML5 development more than a curiosity?

When should you use a mobile enterprise application platform? MEAPs can be a good fit when you're trying to produce a simple mobile content portal for end users. The focus should be a quick, cost-effective way to leverage documentation and media from a mobile device. Avoid customization and keep user interaction minimal. Utilize the strength of the chosen MEAP, but don't be overly ambitious. Realize that when you're ready to move into a more serious enterprise mobile solution, you'll probably have to start from scratch to get it right.

Next Generation Enterprise Mobile and Interactive Web - Global Demands

Enterprise Mobile Applications are drawing every one's attention now with iPhone, iPad, Android and other devices getting in the hands of global consumers. General perception is this.. "It is hard to make money in mobile space. Even enterprises have not figured how to make revenue". I hear this over and over again. It makes me to rewind my memory back and look at what happened. I hope we can recollect the same perception we had around the mid nineties about internet and e-commerce. It took several years for the industry to mature and enterprises to start making revenue and profit in that space. I believe that the same is true for mobile and it might not take several years for the industry to mature; My guess is less than 5 years. Also I strongly believe that enterprises know how to make revenue in mobile space. They are letting the industry to grow and stabilize while consumers adapt the devices.

enterprise rental car

Internet and e-Commerce from mid-nineties:

ENTERPRISE

Wireless devices have been my interest since 1996. While working at Equinox Solutions, Bangalore (a Massachusetts based IT consulting company's India development center), the company had a wireless computing division. Though I heard about WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) and selling advertisements through wireless phones, I couldn't see how that will happen. But I had reasonable exposure to this emerging field before even I had seen a real wireless phone.

Acceptance of Mobile Phones:

During the year 2000, I bought my 1st Samsung mobile phone. I was so amazed with the capability of being able to talk to someone with a nationwide plan throughout United States even while I was in a remote area with cell phone coverage. Slowly cell phone became a commodity, plans were affordable. I could see how mobile phone based ads could take place.

WAP based applications and Workflow:

Around 2007, I had an opportunity to promote Mobile phone based workflow solution through my startup as part time job. Had opportunity to attend many conferences including Gartner's BPM (Business Process Management) Summit in Florida. Again, I could see the opportunity but the suitable devices were not ready in consumer's hands.

iPhone, iPad, Android and the revolution:

Since the middle of 2010, I have been participating in many Job fairs, meeting medium size to big size recruitment companies, talking to industrial experts in the IT industry and attending various business conferences. I see that the mobile platform has matured, mobile devices have the usability features to run applications with necessary internet bandwidth and affordable data plans. However, the common problem is, that the enterprise mobile application development space does not have enough number of Quality Engineers on Android, iPhone, iPad and related platforms.

All-in-one in Mobile device:

As the technology galloped many strides in the processors speed & parallel processing and with the advancement in Memory's size to capacity and speed, the Mobile devices are quickly replacing a lot of devices like the Laptops, Netbooks, Camera, GPS devices, Camcorders, MP3 players and more.

I see the power of mobile devices along with 4G wireless standards changing the way we do business and collaborate with each other in the near future.

Enterprise Mobile Apps and the Demand:

Many ideas are becoming realities both in the consumer and Enterprise level. But sadly, there is a big vacuum for the availability of qualified engineers. This is not only in the United States, but all over the world. There are plenty of Individual contributors in this space who have developed Mobile Apps across the globe. But these engineers will need education and coaching on understanding few important areas while developing Mobile applications for Enterprise.

Few companies have prophetically visualized the dimensions of this vacuum and have designed curriculum to train resources for Enterprise Mobile Space and enabling quality mobile Apps. The global demand will continue to put more demand on qualified Engineers to be trained all over the world.

Mobile Car Washing and Doing Business With Hertz Rent-A-Car

If you own a mobile car washing or mobile auto detailing business then may I suggest to you finding new clientele in the car rental agency business? Why do I recommend this? Well personally having been in the fleet car and truck washing business for almost 3 decades it has served me well cleaning for rental car agencies. Many small auto detailers and mobile car wash operators have not tapped into this niche because they do not really understand it.

enterprise rental car

To get started I recommend looking thru the phone book and seeing which car rental agencies exist in your area of service or city. You will also need to get a quick education in how car rental agencies work and the history behind the industry. Lets take Hertz Rent-a-Car for instance and talk about doing business with Hertz Rent-A-Car. You see, Hertz is the oldest car rental company in the world and each car rental corporation has a unique history which you should study before going in to make the sales call.

ENTERPRISE RENTAL

Believe it or not it was started in 1918 by a guy named Walter Jacobs who had 12 Model Ts'. He was only 22 at the time. He sold his business to John Hertz also President of Yellow Cab and Yellow Truck and Coach Manufacturing. In 1967 Hertz became a subsidiary of RCA Corp. Hertz later was sold to UAL and then was sold to Ford Motor Company's newly formed Park Ridge Corp. Volvo joined in with funds later in 1988. Hertz was transferred to Ford Motor Company from its subsidiary Park Ridge in 1993. Hertz has also made friends with AAA Club, is recommended by them and gives cardholders up to 15% off. American Express Car Holders also get the same satisfaction. If you are a small business, your Chamber of Commerce also has incentives. Hertz has come along way since 1918.

Today Hertz is a powerhouse with 377 Hertz Equipment Rental Offices (largest in the world), represented in 140 countries with 7000 worldwide rental car offices, 4600 rental offices in the US and Canada, 300 used car sales locations and 488 truck rental locations. Hertz has been able to put their locations in high-end car repair facilities prototypes such as AAA Car Care Center in Sacramento CA and JoeAuto's prototype facility in West Houston TX. They have put locations in BART train stations in San Francisco and in many large car dealerships that sell Ford Products. They have pick up and delivery service in over 600 locations in answer to Enterprise Rent-A-Car's market share advances.

Hertz has opened what they call 'Superette' car sales offices in many large cities to handle all of their sales in metro areas. Instead of Enterprises or Budget's strategy of smaller 60-100 car facilities spread around the town. I have been to a Superette Facility in Houston. Hertz Car Sales offices boast of being able to offer hassle free car sales, complete online records of maintenance, huge inventories (the Superette we toured had over 350 cars), factory warranties from manufacturers on most cars, limited 12,000 mile/1 year warranty on all others, competitive financing through FMC. They are serious about selling their cars for a high price and delivering high levels of service, so a mobile car wash company makes a great fit on their organization.

Hertz has an excellent fleet program for companies who wish to buy one year old Ford cars or trucks for their business all backed with Ford Motor Credit Loans or Smart leases by Ford. This program also has a claims service to go with it and a small business insurance package with low rates. You as a mobile car wash company might be interested in this as a way to expand your fleet if you like using Ford products. This program may change in the future if Ford divests itself from such non-core business models. Their truck rental business is similar to Penske, Ryder, U-Haul and Budget's truck rental services with packaging materials available or just a truck to use for a day for business purposes or deliveries. We have seen Hertz, Enterprise, Penske and Ryder Trucks at Fed Ex offices during Christmas Holidays to help service demand. And we have even washed them, since Fed Ex refuses to show up in a dirty vehicle to deliver packages. Fed Ex and other small package delivery services are a target for such truck rental companies, since they often rent the trucks for as long as a month at a time.

For locations of Hertz Equipment go to their web site at:

http://www.hertzequip.com

For locations of Hertz Truck Rentals:

https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/byr/index.jsp?
targetPage=browseLocationView.jsp&leftNavUserSelection=globNav_3_1

For Hertz Rental Offices and Car Sales Locations to market to go to:

https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/index.jsp?
targetPage=reservationOnHomepage.jsp

The wonderful thing about working with Hertz is you can detail their used cars for sale, wash the sales lots, clean their rental cars, wash their heavy equipment, clean the concrete at their shops or wash the trucks they rent to customers. So when expanding your clientele and commercial accounts, I recommend rental agencies and of course Hertz is as good a place to start as any. So perhaps you will consider all this in 2006.

Mobile Operating System Battlefield Remains Unsettled as Australians Mobilise Their Enterprise

Market researcher and consultancy has recently conducted its annual business end-user survey, which polled over 900 Australian decision makers, making it the largest of its kind in the country. Survey results on mobile and wireless, presented in the Telsyte Australian Business Mobile Usage and Directions: 2007 End-User Survey report, have led us to conclude that while companies have advanced in enterprise mobility adoption, technology fragmentation, lack of standardisation and end-user confusion remain key market features.

enterprise ssd

With Australia becoming a GSM-only market and emerging WiMAX-based solutions still in nascent stages, technology fragmentation has perhaps become most noticeable in the mobile device and operating system area.

ENTERPRISE

Telsyte finds that a small number of device vendors dominate the business mobile handset market in Australia, with survey results showing Nokia as the most popular vendor by far. The Finnish company is selected by two-thirds of Australian firms as their handset supplier of choice. Motorola and Sony-Ericsson, which appear to be more popular in smaller-size organisations, trail in a distant second and third spot, and collectively these top three suppliers are the primary handset providers to 80% of all businesses.

It should be noted that most business handsets are regular mobile phones, and not smart phones with an operating system (OS). Therefore, while Nokia, Motorola and Sony-Ericsson dominate the overall business handset installed base, the competitive dynamics in the smart phone segment are completely different. That market continues to be led by RIM, manufacturer of the BlackBerry device and solution.

Segmentation analysis indicates that, as would be expected, RIM's presence is more pronounced among companies with a high degree of wireless email penetration, including larger-size firms and those in the professional services, financial services, and telecom & media verticals. RIM's presence also appears to show little variation across the customer bases of the three carriers offering the BlackBerry solutions in Australia - Telstra, Optus and Vodafone.

One of the major areas of consideration for decision makers when mobilising the enterprise is the selection of the mobile device and the OS that runs on it. Device selection, coupled with other key considerations such as network technology and solution selections, continues to pose a challenge for Australian companies. Exacerbating the issue is that the mobile device, and the OS, landscape remains highly fragmented with a number of proprietary solutions that are not compatible with one another.

The fragmentation and indecision are set to continue, as more than half of Australian companies reported no mobile OS standardisation plans as they move further to embrace mobility. The rates of indecision are as high as 60% to two-thirds among SOHO and small companies.

Emerging as the OS of choice is Microsoft Windows Mobile, which powers such devices as HP, iMate, O2 and Dopod smart phones, and most recently the Palm Treo 750. While benefiting from the Windows OS look and feel that most business users are accustomed to, Microsoft's share in the Australian mobile OS market has grown at a rate slower than the vendor would have liked. This has been due to the stronghold fiercely guarded by RIM.

Although competition is set to intensify, Telsyte believes RIM's outlook remains highly positive as 14% of respondents indicated a preference for its OS. Given that the Canadian vendor is now the primary handset supplier to 4% of Australian firms, this finding suggests a potential new market of 10% of businesses that RIM could capitalise on immediately. As with its current installed base, preference for RIM grows stronger with company size. Preferences for the Palm OS and Nokia-backed Symbian OS as the OS to standardise on are limited by comparison.

Mobile Auto Detailing and Mobile Car Washing for Used Car Dealers and Rental Sales Lots

If you own a Mobile Auto Detailing and Mobile Car Washing Company and are looking to increase your customer base and get some solid customers to help your business you may wish to consider washing for Used Car Dealers and Rental Sales Lots. But the mobile car-cleaning entrepreneur is also advised to pick and choose their customers quickly and thus learn a little bit about the industry of used cars and rental cars first.

enterprise rental car

Used car dealers have had some tough times in the past, and many of these can go out of business or string you out for payment, but the Rent-A-Car Company used lots are backed by a big corporation which means your chances of not being paid for work completed are very low. Also many times these dealers will be a lead into detailing of cars to be sold and also for washing at airport lots and main Rent-A-Car lots.

ENTERPRISE RENTAL

All you need is to get your foot in the door. Some of the Rent-A-Car companies with the most pre-owned car dealership lots are Thrifty, Budget, Hertz, National, Enterprise, and Rent-A-Wreck. Some have large one or two-day sales events to get rid of a lot of cars at one time while maintaining year round lots. Some of these dealership divisions cater to credit unions and others do self-financing. All these strategies are employed periodically to maximize sales.

A Mobile Auto Detailing and Mobile Car Washing Entrepreneur should be looking at these markets as long-term markets and as they expand their market penetration and their businesses get bigger they can introduce seal coats, reconditioning and other detailing add-ons. Consider this in 2006.

Mobile Truck Washing Companies Should Consider Rental Truck Yards as Customers

The mobile truck washing companies typically wash fleets of vehicles, yet we have always found that most truck washing companies skip the niche of Rental Trucks for larger fleets and in doing so this leaves the niche fairly wide open for the mobile truck washing entrepreneur who is looking to boost accounts and increase sales.

enterprise rental car

Budget, like Hertz and Enterprise, also has truck divisions that sell their used trucks and vans. Some of the Budget Rent-A-Truck Divisions are quite large and have many units to sell. Trucks do not sell as fast as cars and therefore you get to wash them more times on the lots before they sell. Especially until the used truck market gets back to normal. It was down 55% from 2000 to 2005. Currently business is still under performing on the used truck rental sector, but the rental yards are indeed good places to wash at.

ENTERPRISE RENTAL

Then there is also the rental car sales too; Enterprise Car Sales seem to be quite abundant and tend to have as many as 6-8 Car Sales lots in large metro areas such as Houston, Dallas, Denver, Phoenix, Atlanta, Orlando, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Chicago, and St Louis type cities. Also large in sales for used cars are Ugly Duckling in TX, FL, CA, AZ. Hertz with 7000 car rental agency office also has over 600,000 cars a year to sell. All in all mobile car washers and mobile truck washers must consider this viable niche if they are serious in increasing their account base and sales volumes, so consider all this in 2006.

How to Make Serious Money With Your Own Mobile Food Concession Trailer Business

The US economy is powered by the joint forces of 25 million small businesses. Over half of these enterprises are home based and they provide much needed services to their local community. The reason why entrepreneurs start a business is as varied as the types of different businesses that they choose. People start their own business as they are often tired of their current job. Many of them know that they can make more money working for themselves. Often they are looking for a new challenge, a different business field to explore or a way to change their lifestyle.

Entrepreneurs come from all walks of life. Some of them are members of minority groups, who have a hard time finding regular jobs in the traditional workplace. Some people, like senior citizens often look for part time employment opportunities to supplement their current income. Many people also start a business because they are passionate about something and have a burning desire to share their products with the world.

ENTERPRISE RENTAL COUPONS

While the motivations to start a business vary a lot, the business goals of most Entrepreneurs are surprisingly similar. Most self employed business owners simply want to create their own job and their own income. This gives them more control over the money flowing into their lives- during good times and just as much during a Recession. Millions of Entrepreneurs have succeeded and they have done it with small budgets and by resisting the urge to expand beyond their limits.

One of the proven strategies to succeed in small business ventures is to keep the business expenses as low as possible. This is achieved by closely watching all expenses, like rent, utilities and advertising costs. But as the biggest expense is labor, it also means to keep the business size under control. Statistics show that 75% of businesses in the US are so small, that they don't even have any employees at all! They operate out of their home to keep the overhead low and are able to scale their operation to a perfect size to meet their financial needs.

In this article I would like to present a business idea to you, that excels in all of these aspects: The Mobile Food business! It is a small, scaled down version of a restaurant that can serve hundreds of people per day. It is very flexible, has high profit margins, is based on a proven concept and can be easily managed by one person.

The profits of most small food businesses are rising- even as the recession is showing its effects on our nation! While price-conscious consumers turn away from conventional restaurants, they are taking more meals back home. Many households like to go all out on convenience foods that offer a good bang for the buck: large buckets of fried chicken, Bar-B-Q Family Feasts or even pizzas that now come in packs of four. Creatively designed coupons give suggestions like: "Buy two and get two free" or "Free Soda with all family meals"...

Food vendors are getting creative with their marketing offers and by they have a solid track record of record sales. They offer everything from gourmet coffees to wood-oven baked pizzas, Sushi, Wraps and even Lobster dinners. Mobile food restaurants are on a roll as they keep up with the trend of the time. More than that- they are bold enough to define some trends themselves, by catering towards a certain lifestyle. The ever young and active family, that lives a life on the go and never quite seems to have time...

While many businesses struggle for survival, most food businesses managed to pull through and seem to enjoy a new surge in popularity. But what is it exactly that makes the mobile food business succeed when others fail? After all, any good business opportunity has to stand up to close inspection to be considered a valid option. I will share my own observations here with you, so you can understand the potential of the mobile food business. Here are eight reasons why you should consider looking further into starting a home based concession trailer business:

1. A good business has to make sense

In the real world, the only businesses that thrive and survive are the ones that fulfill a basic need and that offer real solutions. In a mobile food business, it is very easy to see, where the money comes from and how the profits are made. It is easy to understand why people exchange the value of money for a food or drink item. You might know of some locations that have an unrealized potential that you can fulfill and take home the profits at the same time.

2. A good business should show profits

The mobile food business has a daily stream of customers that pay mostly in cash money. The profits are instant and can be realized the very first day of business! After a while you will know exactly what income potential any location or event has. Weekdays have their own earning potential as well as weekend days. This is why some Mobile Food Business Operators choose to close their businesses on Mondays and Tuesdays rather than Saturdays and Sundays.

3. A good business should be simple to operate

A mobile food business is easy to understand and you don't need years of schooling just to open your doors. You are able to teach the procedures to part-time helpers as well. Everything you need to know can be learned in our home study course, through research online or by assisting other mobile food vendors for a few days.

4. A good business should have low startup costs

How else can you open up a "Mini Restaurant" with similar earning potential with such a low investment? Some operators have been able to start out with a monthly lease agreement of less than 0. Others are able to start even on a smaller scale: with a sales tent that is very inexpensive and a daily fee to set up on shows and festivals. There are very few other businesses that will let you operate with these startup costs! You also benefit from low operating costs as you don't have to pay the ever increasing monthly commercial utility bills that most other restaurants have to pay! You can stay small and mobile and at the same time serve many customers per day!

5. A good business should have a high earning potential

Some Operators of simple hot dog carts can make hundreds of dollars every day at a single location! The same potential is even easier to achieve with a concession trailer and a suitable sales menu. Some weekend events can make enough money so you can afford to take off the weekdays! I can show you how you can consistently make at least 0 per day in your own BBQ Catering Trailer Business!

6. A good business should offer the potential for growth

You can easily duplicate your initial efforts by hiring a person to do the actual serving of foods and use your time to set up a second food trailer. Strategically placed they can generate huge sums of cash money and the best part is- once everything is set up- you might be able to stay at home and make money at the same time! There are many underserved niche markets like residential neighborhoods, business districts and office parks that offer great earning potential!

7. A good business should be of service

It feels good to realize what the essence of the mobile food business really is: you are in the business of feeding hungry people! You are helping all of them out. How? By making their lives easier, by saving everybody time as they don't have to cook and pack a meal for themselves. It really is a win-win situation! Your great food items generate many happy and satisfied customers, and you make money at the same time. And the best part is: They will be back to buy more from you- again and again!

8. A good business should increase happiness

A business only really makes sense, when you are truly happy about yourself and your daily work. The Catering Trailer Business is a fun and rewarding home based business opportunity- full of daily surprises and adventures! When you are dealing with the public, they expect a little bit of entertainment and showmanship as well. Entertaining personalities do extremely well in this business field.

Whatever you do- remember that happiness is an energy that goes back and forth. The more people you can make happy, the more people will make you happy as well!

The secret word to understanding the mobile food business is: "Catering". Once you understand the basic concept of preparing food items in one area and serving them in another, you have understood what this business is all about! Your catering trailer is simply a tool to transport your food items to your sales location and a way to serve them in style. The Concession Trailer has all the Equipment you need to cook, heat and cool your food items. Plus, it also has hot running water as well as much needed storage space.

The different menu items you can sell are amazing: From wood oven baked gourmet pizzas to hickory smoked BBQ. From New York style hot dogs to custom sausages. From hot gourmet specialty foods like kettle corn and coffees to cool ice creams, smoothies and drinks! With these selections you are sure to please a crowd and make some serious money at the same time!
